ANNUAL REORGANIZATION AND
REGULAR MEETING
Council Chamber:
Mayor Burzichelli presided at the annual
reorganization and first regular meeting of Council held on the above date and
place.
The opening prayer was given by Father
Minniti from St. John’s Church.
Mayor Burzichelli asked all those present
to join in the salute to the flag, which was conducted by Borough Clerk
VanScoy.
Borough Clerk VanScoy presented the
election results and they are as follows:
Mayor John Burzichelli received 1,157 votes, Councilman John Giovannitti
received 1,111 votes and Councilman W. Jeffery Hamilton received 1,121 votes.
Former Mayor and Notary Public John D.
Burzichelli (the Mayor’s father) performed the Swearing In of Mayor John J.
Burzichelli.
Mayor Burzichelli performed the Swearing
In of Councilman W. Jeffery Hamilton.
Vince Giovannitti, Councilman of
Greenwich Township and brother, performed the Swearing In of Councilman John
Giovannitti.
Mayor Burzichelli also performed the
Swearing In of the Fire Officials which were:
Michael Licciardello, Borough Fire Chief and Deputy Emergency Management
Coordinator, Glenn Roemmich, Deputy Fire Chief and Emergency Management
Coordinator and Alfonse Giampola as Assistant Fire Chief.
Mayor Burzichelli thanked former Borough
Fire Chief Gary Stevenson for serving as the Borough Fire Chief and the great
job that he did.
Gary Stevenson thanked Mayor and Council
and the residents for having served as the Borough Fire Chief
Mayor Burzichelli called the meeting to
order and read the opening statement regarding the Open Public Meetings Act.
Father Minniti thanked Mayor and Council
for inviting him to this meeting and for all their service as an elected
official for the residents of the Borough of Paulsboro.
Mayor Burzichelli recognized Freeholders
Joe Brigandi,, Joe Chila and Frank DiMarco, Chuck O’Leary from the Sheriff’s
Department, Archie Roemmich, Chief Ken Ridinger, Captain Frank Grogan,
Lieutenant Chris Wachter, Det Sgt. Vern Marino, Borough Foreman Charles Tinder,
Water/Sewer Superintendent John Daly, Construction Official Phil Zimm and
Greenwich Township Councilman Vince Giovannitti
Members present were: Haynes,
Giovannitti, Hamilton, Kidd, Morina, Tedeski.
Giovannitti moved and Hamilton seconded
to nominate Councilman Haynes as President of Council. Roll Call: Giovannitti,
Hamilton, Haynes, Kidd, Morina, Tedeski. Nays: None. Motion carried.
Mayor Burzichelli opened the meeting to
the public.
Glenn Roemmich, Emergency Management
Coordinator, stated the viewing and funeral for the Fireman in East Greenwich
Township will be held on Thursday and Friday.
The viewing will be on Thursday night and the services will be held 9:00
a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. New Jersey
Department of Transportation will be shutting down Broad Street to all traffic
during that time. There will be about
800, to 1,000 firefighters attending these services. There will be a luncheon afterwards at the Paulsboro Fire House.
There wasn’t any further public
participation.
Mayor Burzichelli announced there will be
a reception at Nino Gervasi’s after the meeting.

MAYOR
AND COUNCIL REPORTS:
Councilman Giovannitti thanked the
residents for electing him to another term.
He thanked his wife and daughter, the Borough officials and the County
officials. He wished everyone a Happy
New Year.
Councilman Hamilton thanked the residents
for coming to the meeting and for electing him again.
Mayor Burzichelli congratulated both
Councilmen Giovannitti and Hamilton on the re-election.
Councilman Kidd congratulated Mayor
Burzichelli and Councilmen Giovannitti and Hamilton on their re-election. He thanked the residents for coming to the
meeting. He also would like to see the
Court Room packed like this meeting at every meeting. He hoped it would be better in 2008 than in 2007 and he wished
everyone a Happy New Year.
Councilwoman Tedeski congratulated Mayor
Burzichelli and Councilmen Hamilton and Giovannitti on their re-election. She looked forward to working with Council
again. She wished everyone a Happy New
Year and thanked everyone who came to the meeting on a cold night. She is looking to improve the public celebrations
and she will push forward to keep everyone entertained. She has her hopes up high that Council will
work together to succeed. She also
hopes to work hard to get the job done.
She thanked Borough employees and committees.
Council President Haynes thanked the
Borough Council on his nomination as the Council President. He felt Council worked well together and
will have to prioritize in 2008. He
thanked Freeholder Director Sweeney and the Freeholder Board in lending support
to the community.
Mayor Burzichelli recognized his mother
who is the President of the Board of Education. He stated there would be challenges every where in the State of
New Jersey. He also recognized
Administrator Salvatore who had broke his leg in the line of duty and continued
with his duties. He further stated the
successes of 2007 which were the building of The Bank, the approval of a Super
Wawa and the Hotel. He thanked the
Freeholder Board with their help with the Port Project. He also thanked the volunteers such as the
Land Use Board as they were very busy with the above successes. There will be
greater strides in 2008. The Borough
will be facing budget issues such as understaffing in the Road Department and
the Police Department which could involve a referendum. He welcomed Solicitor Michael Angelini. He again stated that refreshments would be
served at Nino Gervasi’s Restaurant at 7:00 p.m. He wished everyone a
Happy New Year.
Haynes moved and Hamilton seconded to
adjourn the meeting at 6:43 p.m. All
were in favor of the motion.
